China's excavator exports topped 86,500 units in Q1 2026, up 39.98% year-on-year.

According to the latest data from the General Administration of Customs, in the first quarter of 2026, China exported a total of 86,453 excavators (including tracked and wheeled types), with a total export value of US$2.86 billion, representing year-on-year increases of 39.98% and 26.08%, respectively.

| Crawler excavators: High Growth Continues, Market Diversification

Looking at the monthly trends, since 2025, the export of Crawler excavators has shown a stable growth trend with the growth rate gradually expanding. Entering 2026, this high growth trend has continued strongly. In March, China exported 28,254 Crawler excavators, valued at US$981 million, representing year-on-year increases of 20.90% and 16.15%, respectively. The cumulative export volume in the first quarter reached 84,641 units, a year-on-year increase of 40.80%, with a total value of approximately US$2.8 billion, a year-on-year increase of 26.84%, covering 195 countries and regions.

Looking at the month-on-month figures, among the top ten countries and regions in terms of export volume in March, all except Belgium and Germany saw varying degrees of growth. Exports to Canada, Vietnam, and Australia all increased by over 60% month-on-month, fully reflecting the strong demand from emerging markets.

In terms of export destinations, market concentration is high. In the first quarter, China exported over 1,000 Crawler excavators to 18 countries and regions. The United States ranked first with 14,358 units, followed by Indonesia (7,137 units), Germany (4,027 units), Belgium (3,997 units), and Italy (3,316 units). France, Canada, Vietnam, Brazil, Poland, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, Australia, the Philippines, Turkey, Myanmar, Thailand, and Spain all exported over 1,000 units. It is worth noting that, similar to the fundamental role of tractors in agricultural mechanization, Crawler excavators have become one of the core pieces of equipment in the global infrastructure sector. In terms of export value, the top 20 countries and regions exported a total of US$1.58 billion in the first quarter, accounting for 56.7% of the total. Indonesia ranked first with US$340 million, while Belgium, the United States, the Netherlands, and Guinea all exported over US$80 million.

Looking at the month-on-month dynamics, Indonesia has consistently ranked first among the top ten countries and regions in cumulative export value for several months. In March, except for Guinea, South Africa, Brazil, and the Philippines, which saw month-on-month declines, all other countries and regions experienced month-on-month increases. Of particular note is the 181% month-on-month increase in exports to Nigeria, which propelled Nigeria from 19th to 8th place in the cumulative rankings. This aligns with the accelerating penetration of agricultural and engineering equipment such as tractors in the African market, demonstrating the enormous growth potential of the African market. | Wheeled Excavators: Growth Rate Narrows, High Regional Concentration

In contrast to the high growth of Crawler excavators, the export growth rate of wheeled excavators has slowed. Since 2025, the export market for wheeled excavators has maintained steady growth, but the growth rate began to narrow from August onwards, and this trend continued into 2026.

In March 2026, China exported 691 wheeled excavators, a year-on-year decrease of 3.36%; the total value was US$0.32 billion, a year-on-year increase of 8.87%. The cumulative export volume in the first quarter was 1,812 units, with a total value of approximately US$0.8 billion, representing year-on-year increases of 10.02% and 4.21% respectively, covering 109 countries and regions.

In terms of export regions, the market concentration of wheeled excavators is relatively high, with Central Asia and Southeast Asia being the main destinations. In the first quarter, China exported more than 30 wheeled excavators to 9 countries and regions, with 5 of them exporting more than 100 units. Uzbekistan led with 246 units, followed by Vietnam (203 units) and Pakistan (196 units), while Kyrgyzstan (194 units) and Kazakhstan (122 units) also performed well. In addition, the Philippines, Poland, the UAE, and Norway also have considerable markets. These wheeled excavators, with their excellent mobility and maneuverability in complex working conditions even surpassing some traditional tractors, are particularly suitable for urban renewal, farmland improvement, and small-scale infrastructure projects. In terms of export value, the top 20 countries and regions exporting Chinese wheeled excavators in the first quarter totaled US$0.62 billion, accounting for 78.1% of the total. Uzbekistan topped the list with US$11.59 million, followed by Kazakhstan ($6.95 million), Vietnam ($6.37 million), Kyrgyzstan ($5.73 million), and the Philippines ($3.91 million). Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan, three of the five Central Asian countries, all ranked highly, fully reflecting the strong demand for Chinese wheeled excavators in Central Asia.

| Overall Trends and Outlook

Overall, China's excavator exports in the first quarter of 2026 exhibited three main characteristics: First, Crawler excavators continued their high growth, with the US, Indonesia, and Europe being the main core markets; second, the growth rate of wheeled excavators slowed, but market concentration remained high, with Central Asia and Southeast Asia becoming the main growth drivers; and third, emerging markets performed strongly, particularly in Africa, where exports to countries like Nigeria and Guinea rapidly increased, emerging as new and important growth drivers.

Looking ahead to the second quarter, with the continued release of global infrastructure demand and the continuous improvement of the competitiveness of Chinese construction machinery products, excavator exports are expected to maintain a steady growth trend, providing global customers with higher-quality "Made in China" solutions.
