1. Sliding Gear Shifting
Direct gear engagement: This farm tractor gearbox switches gears by sliding gears (or gear sets) on the sliding gear shaft and sliding them directly into engagement with the target gear through a shift fork.
Simple structure: only gears and forks are needed and with low manufacturing costs.
High operational difficulty: precise control of speed matching is required, which demands high technical skills from mini tractor drivers.
Severe wear and tear: This kind of structure is easy to cause the gear bump between each other leading to the phenomenon of jammed teeth. This will generate impact on the end face of the gear teeth and be accompanied by noise. Frequent impacts can easily cause gear edge tooth breakage and have a shorter lifespan. That situation causes a decrease in the driving safety of mini tractor.
2. Meshing Sleeve Shifting
Sleeve intermediary: A meshing sleeve and a constant meshing gear are added to the gearbox of farm tractor, which increases the total moment of inertia of the rotating part of the gearbox. The gears are fixed by side convex teeth (canine teeth), when they are shifting, the moving sleeve (meshing sleeve) is inserted into the canine groove of the gear to complete the power connection of the mini tractor gearbox gears.
Partial buffering: The meshing sleeve of the mini tractor gearbox bears the impact and protects the gears, but it still requires a certain speed matching. Reducing the occurrence of direct gear wear and gear jamming has increased the service life of the mini tractor which reduced the failure rate.
3. Synchronizer Shifting
Friction synchronization: The synchronizer of farm tractor gearbox is a friction plate arranged on the meshing sleeve and gear set. Unlike general friction plates, its friction surface is conical. When it’s shifting gears, the synchronizing ring synchronizes the speed of the gear with the sleeve through conical friction, and then the sleeve smoothly meshes.
Smooth gear shifting: It can achieve rapid, impact free, and noise free gear shifting for farm tractor. Friction synchronization significantly reduces mechanical impact to ensures smooth gear shifting without gear jamming and extends the lifespan of the gear set.
